Out of all the books I've been reading lately, I'd have to say that exercise is probably mentioned the least. That is because people don't really know how to exercise. Heck, I took one semester of Health Physical Education in college, and I can't remember anything. So I will discuss what I do remember and what I do know. I know that exercise is as vitally important as diet. Health is a lifestyle, not an activity to be done off an on whenever you feel like it. If you don't exercise, within 10-14 days your body will begin to regress and undo all the good you just did it. Exercise two to three times a week is the best method for success. Exercises can be divided into two main categories: anaerobic and aerobic. Anaerobic means that it does not require oxygen. Aerobic means that it does require oxygen. They body can choose to have either anaerobic or aerobic respiration, but it can only stay in anaerobic respiration for short periods of time. Anaerobic exercise is doing something like lifting weights or other strenuous activities. Aerobic activities is doing something like jogging. In college, my professor mostly preached the benefits of aerobic exercise. Jordan S. Rubin of The Maker's Diet preaches the benefit of anaerobic exercise. I believe both are beneficial to the body. In fact, a good aerobic workout is recommended before an anaerobic workout, so that the muscles needed for the heavy workload in anaerobic exercise will have lots of blood flow and oxygen. An important exercise regimen is key. I'm going on personal experience here, but planning how long and what types of exercise you will be doing ahead of time works way better than working out whenever you feel like it. Try to find exercises that target a total range of the body, and not something that focuses on just one small area. People tend to do exercises that they favor over others, this can lead to neglected areas of exercise. Also, people have the belief of no pain no gain. That is stupid. Pain is a signal your body sends to your brain that something isn't good for you! Burn is great, but pain is horrible. When doing aerobic exercise, go for time and not intensity. When doing anaerobic exercise do many repetitions with small weights to sculpt and large weights with fewer repetitions for bulk.
