Also fish from cold water sometimes has been exposed to higher levels of mercury, and therefore can be toxic. That is why flax seed is a much safer, more inexpensive, and more common way to obtain the amounts of Omega 3 that we need. There are some down sides to flax though. It depletes the body of Vitamin B-6. It also can go rancid rather quickly when exposed to heat or air in as fast as 15 minutes. It can be stored in the freezer and won't freeze, but you may need a long spoon to dish out the oil from those tricks lids that come on most bottles. You may want to look into buying "Omegasentials". It is a ground form of flax that is much more stable and comes with all the vitamins and antioxidants necessary to absorb and perserve the flax like B3, B6, vitamin C, zinc, magnesium, and vitamin E. Although linoleic may seem harmful because it is classified as a Omega 6 fatty acid, there is one form of linoleic acid that is beneficial--conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). It differs only in the position of two bonds compared to the regular linoleic acid. It can be found in ruminant animal fat. Americans should be careful though because often producers cut off the fat from the meat we buy, which actually contains beneficial conjugated linoleic acid. It's amazing how much scientists are discovering constantly. Limit your saturated, hydrogenated, and trans fatty acid intake and increase your unsaturated intake avoiding linoleic acid, and your health will be improved tremendously.
