Glossary


This Glossary is loaded with words. The purpose of this glossary is to give a definition for some of the words I did not explain in depth. The definitions are provided by Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary. 

Auto-immune--of, relating to, or caused by autoantibodies or lymphocytes that attack molecules, cells, or tissues of the organism producing them <
autoimmune diseases>

Empirical formula--a chemical formula showing the simplest ratio of elements in a compound rather than the total number of atoms in the molecule 2O is the
empirical formula for glucose>

Mineral--an inorganic substance

Mole--the base unit of amount of pure substance in the International System of Units that contains the same number of elementary entities as there are atoms in exactly 12 grams of the isotope carbon 12

Mucilage--a gelatinous substance of various plants (as legumes or seaweeds) that contains protein and polysaccharides and is similar to plant gums

Ozone--a
triatomic very reactive form of oxygen that is a bluish irritating gas of pungent odor, that is formed naturally in the atmosphere by a photochemical reaction and is a major air pollutant in the lower atmosphere but a beneficial component of the upper atmosphere, and that is used for oxidizing, bleaching, disinfecting, and deodorizing

Ruminant--(1)
: chewing the cud (2) : characterized by chewing again what has been swallowed b : of or relating to a suborder (Ruminantia) of even-toed hoofed mammals (as sheep, giraffes, deer, and camels) that chew the cud and have a complex usually 4-chambered stomach

Solvent--a usually liquid substance capable of dissolving or dispersing one or more other substances

Vitamin--any of various organic substances that are essential in minute quantities to the nutrition of most animals and some plants, act especially as coenzymes and precursors of coenzymes in the regulation of metabolic processes but do not provide energy or serve as building units, and are present in natural foodstuffs or sometimes produced within the body.
